REACT has donated assorted Usborne Book UK children’s books to Atwima Manhyia Methodist Primary school in the Atwima municipality in the Ashanti region of Ghana as part of its ongoing School’s Books Support Scheme (SBSS). The school was nominated by a REACT Trustee affiliate Mrs. Nancy Owusu Agyemang for her general REACT support since launch and her personal commitment to supporting under -resourced community schools in Ghana.
Presenting the books, the school’s PTA Chair Mr. Abe Markson, who is also an old pupil in 1962 advised the children to work hard to become useful both to themselves and their parents. Mr. Markson urged pupils to embrace reading in their quest to seek knowledge because knowledge is the key to success.
The Headteacher of the school Madam Adwoa Awua Ofori, thanked REACT and Usborne for their kind gesture and promised to utilize the books for the benefit of both the current and next generation.
REACT founder and CEO, Prince Osei Akowuah, in a remote message said the donation marks an ongoing campaign in supporting rural schools with quality books to drive rural literacy. Prince said REACT will work tirelessly with all partners, such as Usborne Books UK, to honor our social contract in uplifting formal literacy in the most vulnerable communities and therefore urged the school to look after books for the foreseeable future.
