REACT’s toys donations to the most deprived children in Ghana began in Kasoa in the Central region. The project which was initiated by Ms. Deborah Awuku one of REACT’s local Coordinators saw the first donation made to Countryside Orphanage at Bawjiase a suburb of Kasoa. The center offers accommodation, education and livelihood support to orphans in around the area and has a child population of 500 out of which 55 are orphans with age ranging from 1 up to 16 years.
Presenting the items Ms. Awuku said the children were not only grateful for the donation but were overly excited and appreciative as they immediately started to play with the toys.
Ms. Awuku said she was thrilled to see the children determined to work out the jigsaw puzzles and excitedly embrace the challenge because it will help engage their design and thinking potentials as children in such lonely environment.
The Centre owner and manager Mrs. Emma Baffoe expressed their gratitude for the kind gesture and said the toys will not only serve as teaching aids and Learning materials which will sustain the pupils attention during teaching but will also enhance the skills development of the young ones.
The center has also requested teaching assistants through foreign direct exchange programmes to help address the constant lack of teaching staff due to limited resources to employ teachers and feed the children at the same time.
